  • I have had 3 experiences with this location now and all 3 have been a headache, my most recent being a nightmare. My first 2 were for oil changes. My car is not a performance vehicle, and while synthetic oil is suggested, it is not required. So I do not use synthetic. I always get a blend. The manager Sal, on both occasions attempted to tell me I HAD to get synthetic and we went back and forth before I finally won out. My third, and what will be my final experience happened on sept 30th when i brough my car in for the NYS inspection. I was told that my brakes caused the inspection to fail, and that I would have to pay over $600 to get them fixed. By the end of the conversation he magically cut the quote in half simply because I said I'd have to stop around because I can't afford that. Then I got a ticket for an expired inspection because they failed me. Yesterday, I brought my car to valvoline on ulster ave to have it reinspected because his diagnosis didn't sit right with me. They advised me that while my brakes will need to be done soon, it is not reason to fail my inspection! NYS states they have to be metal to metal to fail an inspection! I am appalled at how Sal runs his business. He is a money grabbing crook. I will NEVER go there again, and I will tell everyone to steer clear.

  • I've been buying oil changes here for a couple of years and it has always been $14.99 or 17.99. This time, while the sign out front by the road said $14.99, the price was $26.99. In order to get the lower price now , you must apply for a credit card and use it for the oil change. As a loyal customer, I would have appreciated a heads up to this change; I received no such notification. I don't need another credit card. Maybe I don't need Monro for my future oil changes.

  • I had my Subaru Forester's 60k tune up @ Monro on 7/26/17. It was very pricey, $814, but I trusted them to do as good a job as the dealership as I had recently used Monro to replace an exhaust system (also pricey). I had given them a 4-star review for previous service, saying that they seemed honest. I don't mind paying a reasonable price for quality work, but the first item was "brake system flush overall" @ $99. On Monday, 9/18, my brake light came on. I was on my way to get a tire repaired @ Mavis Discount Tire and had them look @ the cause of the brake light. They said that the brake fluid was extremely low; no sign of any leaks and that they believed that the brake fluid flush was never done by Monro, calling them "dishonest" and saying that "karma" will catch up with them. Needless to say, I am very upset as I had to shell out $75.59 to have a proper brake system flush. I will not return to Monro and will advise my friends and colleagues to do the same. There is no reason to deceive customers.

  • The mechanics working on my upper control arms and strut assemblies didn't tighten the nuts properly or put cotter pins in to hold them in place. They became so loose they almost came off my car and could have caused a major accident and injury to myself my wife or my two children. I had only driven about 100 miles and a mechanic friend of mine discovered this and rectified the issue while it was on his lift for a different repair. Thankfully when I went back to the store and talked with the manager, Sal, he took care of my concerns by having the mechanics recheck the car and then provided me two complimentary oil change certificates . It was a big hassle on my part after having $2100 in work done. Pls be more careful!!! Someone's life may literally depend on your job being done correctly. Sal handled it quickly and professionally

  • 7/3/17 When I had an oil change done there in June/17, Jim the mechanic/inspector said my ‘tires were shot’ and would not pass inspection because the sidewalls were worn from being run flat. I bought those tires from the same Monroe shop 6000 miles ago and they never had a flat or were run under inflated. SSL (self serving lie)! Is this Monroe policy to increase sales? 7/3/17 Inspection: Same Jim said the right lower control arm was split, shot and very hard to get to and fails inspection. He said he felt it move in the 30' drive into the shop. I asked to see it and was told it wasn’t visible, but he felt it. I had noticed a slight click from that area for over 10000 miles, but felt no instability, yet this was enough to fail inspection. A proper check would have been to take the car down the road and give it more than 3 seconds diagnosis. Mgr Sal said the flat rate price was for 2 hours labor, $230, and the arm was $225. Jim had the arm off in TEN minutes and showed me a worn bushing. The arm was solid; the bushing was solid; the rubber bushing had superficial cracks. While I’d normally press the old bushing out and replace all 3 for far less then the ludicrous $225 part, Jim said they don’t do that (Monroe policy?) and labor would bring the price back up anyway. SSL! Since they held the loaded gun at me (failing inspection), I reluctantly agreed to replacing the arm. They ordered the arm, got the wrong one and waited a full hour before the right one arrived. They were right that putting the new one in takes longer than pulling the old one - 15 minutes to drop the car. So for 60 minutes waiting and 25 minutes of actual labor I was charged $230. Even rounding UP the labor to 30 minutes means I was charged $460 per hour labor! Is this how you put customers first instead of charging for 30 minutes actual labor? It’s also customary for a mechanic to test drive the car after such a repair. He didn’t. When I was an owner/mec

  • I started my car the other day. Or, I should say, tried to start my car. After jumping the car the first thing I did was rush to Monro in Kingston and consult Jim and Sal, who tested my battery. They informed me that my battery was no good and that I'd need a replacement, and walked me through the process of getting a new one as well as my options.   • I paid for an oil change. After telling me that tire rotation was included in the price, they failed to rotate the tires even though they needed it. They also failed to fill the windshield washer fluid, which was empty. The gentleman at the counter was very friendly but ultimately it's the work that is performed (or in this case not performed) that really matters and I'm very disappointed.

  • Went to Monroe because a local dealership said that my car was so far out of alignment it was a danger to drive! I really didn't trust that man, so I called Monroe and I am so glad that I did. Scheduled an appointment for the alignment and he put my mind at ease advising that while it needed an alignment, it was not nearly as terrible as the other dealership said it was! The car was aligned in no time and I was on my way home in less than a half hour!

They wanted $244 for a brake caliper the was locally available for $42 with lifetime warranty. A 10" brake hose retails for $6.75, they wanted $91 They want $266 for Front struts that retail for $160 There's no excuse for these abuses.

Well they took my money, banged around my car a little bit and sent me on my way. The told me they couldn't get my steering wheel straight but my wheels were all straight????   • I would not recommend this store let alone the company to anyone. Their prices for parts is over 100% of actual retail value. They charge by the hour listed in a book. Tell you a job will take two hours in which one expects to only pay for those hours but then they charge you for 4 hours at $110.00 per hr. because each part says it should take about an hours worth of time! The manager said their products and parts are greater than that of which one would purchase at Advanced Auto or like stores when in fact, it is the same product as they have a parts contract with Advanced Auto! This place is a huge rip off and I will not be returning and I will encourage all that I know to stay away from this establishment!
